SEO is a competition that cannot be won in one night or a few days but can be won in a few months when the proper steps are adequately followed.
SEO can prove highly complex, but knowing the basics will give you a head start; while others may be wasting time figuring out things for themselves, a basic understanding of SEO gives you an advantage.
