The reason why The “Nigerian Naira” is weaker today than it was is that Nigeria is not exporting enough talkless producing, in global economics, for a country to compete globally the size of its trade has to be huge.
Nigeria has an export of less than $54 Billion annually, and an import of over $60 Billion, This is called a “Trade deficit” so we have to borrow to balance things up.
Nigeria needs an excess of $250 Billion more in trade to be able to sort out the economy, just so you know.
Our lands are wasted, human resources are untapped, minerals are not being put to use, manufacturing is poor, and we dont even have enough energy to power a 21st-century economy.
Not to bore you, this is not a lecture room for economics, cos it does not matter, you are here for yourself, and you want to learn about “Businesses You can start as a student in Nigeria”.

What is an online Business?
An online business is a kind of business model that involves the exchange of goods and services using the internet as a medium of exchange.
Why Should you start an online Business as a student in Nigeria?
One thing about learning how to make money online is the fact that you do not require any qualifications to do so.
As a student in Nigeria, you have all the time needed to explore this medium of business because it is readily available.
Instead of relying on the traditional 9-to-5 employee job, an entrepreneur has full control of his or her financial future.
An average Nigerian student has a smartphone and an internet connection, a good way to start if you ask me.
Here are reasons why you should start an online business as a student in Nigeria.
1. You have fewer commitments.
As a student in Nigeria, you are young, maybe in your 20s and have little or no commitments, now is time to take the bull by the horn and get something going for yourself.
New online businesses are started every day and only a handful become successful, nevertheless, yours can become successful too.
2. Create long-term financial security.
An online business can be developed into a stable, almost auto-piloted, source of revenue, and it does not matter if you are a student or not. There are multiple ways to create online businesses that make six figures yearly.
Imagine if you could spend your 20s learning how to create successful online businesses, resulting in several income-producing assets that will continue to earn money while you explore new ventures and add more online businesses to your portfolio.
3. Faster personal growth and maturity.
Nothing turns you into an adult quicker than the responsibilities of owning your own business. When you run an online business as a student in Nigeria, you get to understand the complexities of running a business.
The rules of business don’t bend based on age — a business owner in their mid-50s has the same risks and responsibilities that someone in their 20s has.
Running a business introduces you to many life lessons, and being introduced to them at an early age will allow you to develop into a more balanced person sooner.
4. Ability to work from virtually anywhere in the world.
Yes, the current trend in Nigeria is ” Japa” the truth is that you dont need to leave your country if you can earn in USD.
One thing people who ” Japa” do not tell you is the huge cost of living that comes while you reside in the system overseas.
For starters overseas, you earn not up to $5K a month, but when you calculate the cost of living which includes paying rent and many things, then you hardly save $1K each month.
It is possible to run an online business from any corner of the world, provided you have an Internet connection. The work won’t be any easier in an apartment in the USA than in your own house in Ibadan.
5. Less overhead and financial commitment to start.
Before the Internet and eCommerce, it was difficult for someone in his or her 20s to start a business. Bank loans were not made accessible to anyone, starting an online business generally has lower overhead when compared to an offline traditional brick-and-mortar business.
Starting an online business is way easier and requires fewer logistics to do so, most times all that is required is a domain and a web hosting platform that can be bought for less than $30.
What Online Businesses Can I start in Nigeria as a Student?
Before getting into this section, one point I would like to make is that you need to have one or two skillsets to make money online as a student in Nigeria.
Be not deceived, there is no quick way to make money online, it’s like an art and you have to master it. Internet penetration in Nigeria is at its all-time high. Nigeria has over 91 million internet users out of a population of 206 million.
85% of these users are believed to be accessing the internet using their mobile phones. Here are a few online businesses you can start as a student in Nigeria.
1. Become a Freelancer on Fiver.
Everyone can make money on Fiverr if they have one or two digital skills. Today thousands of Freelancers are making 6 figure income online from Fiverr.
Fiverr brings together buyers and sellers from all over the globe. Earning five dollars per task may not sound like much, but those little sales can become a lot of money in little or no time.
Irrespective of your skill level and experience, there is something you can offer the global market for outsourced services on Fiverr. Fiverr works similar to other online marketplace platforms. A service offered on Fiverr is called a Gig.
The service is offered by the Seller (freelancer), and bought by the buyer(employer) Five dollars is the popular starting price for offers on Fiverr.
Before you can buy or sell anything you must first sign up. ll purchases are subject to a processing fee, Fiverr charges the buyer a $2 processing fee on each purchase and 5% on purchases above $20. Sellers keep 80% of each Gig they sell after they have completed and delivered the task.

3. Become a freelancer on Upwork.
Upwork is a marketplace that connects businesses with freelancers around the world for small or long-term jobs and gigs.
Honestly, I think Upwork and other sites that cater to remote work will only become more popular in the coming years.
Upwork works just like Fiverr, just that it’s owned by an American company and it’s slightly different from Fiverr.
As the entire world becomes more and more connected with great internet access, the need for people to hire local staff is significantly shrinking.
Companies are increasingly realizing that remote workers are more productive and less expensive.
Upwork is an amazing platform that allows you to sell your services online for a huge amount of money, the difference between Upwork and Fiverr, is the fact that you get to set your price, Bid for the project from clients directly.
I wrote a comprehensive guide on how you can start Freelancing on Upwork as a beginner, check out the link to the article to learn more.

Dropshipping is a business system that allows a company to sell products without ever maintaining an inventory of the products.
The customer places an order, and then the company notifies the manufacturer or distributor of the product that an order has been placed and it should be dropped into a shipment for the consumer.
The manufacturer or distributor sends the product directly to the consumer on behalf of the dropshipping company.
The procedure is simple, the consumer pays the drop shipper. The drop shipper pays the manufacturer or distributor.
The manufacturer or distributor sends the product to the customer. Practically, the drop shipper is a marketer.
Because there is no inventory needed, dropshipping is a cost-effective way for new business owners to sell products without a lot of overhead.
One way to start a dropshipping business in Nigeria is to use a popular eCommerce platform in Nigeria called Jumia or Konga.

When it comes to Podcasting, the developed world is at the forefront, countries like the US, Uk, Canada and many others lead this industry with the highest number of listeners.
Nigeria is quite behind when it comes to listening to the podcast, this is due to the inadequacy and slow speed of the internet in the country.
Besides, a lot of Nigerians, will not put up their hard-earned internet service to listen to a podcast, they rather listen to a traditional radio station that they get for free.
Nevertheless, you can start building something for yourself in this scarce market, and you may never know, it might start with you leading a new industry in Nigeria.
