How Do I Use Smithing Template In Minecraft?

The introduction of Smithing Templates in the Minecraft 1.20 update (The Wild Update) has opened up exciting possibilities for players who want to personalize their armor and tools.

These templates offer two key functionalities: adding decorative trims to armor and upgrading diamond gear to powerful Netherite.

Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to use Smithing Templates in Minecraft:

1. Obtaining Smithing Templates:

  • Loot Chests: Explore various chests in structures like Bastion Remnants, Hoglin Stables, and Elder Guardian monuments. These chests have a chance of containing different Smithing Templates.
  • Suspicious Gravel: Digging up suspicious gravel in the new Trail Ruins biome can yield Smithing Templates.
  • Crafting (Duplication): This method requires finding one Smithing Template first. Once you have it, follow these steps:
    1. Place the template in the center of the top row of a crafting table.
    2. Put a compatible building block (specific to each template type) in the center slot directly below the template.
    3. Fill the remaining crafting slots with diamonds.

2. Using Smithing Templates:

  • Craft a Smithing Table: If you haven’t already, gather wood planks and cobblestones to craft a Smithing Table.
  • Place the Template: Put the desired Smithing Template in the leftmost slot of the Smithing Table.
  • Add the Gear: Place the compatible armor piece, tool, or weapon you want to modify in the center slot. The interface will dynamically show compatible items for the chosen template.
  • Apply the Modification: Depending on the template type:
    • Armor Trims: Place the desired colored material (e.g., redstone dust for red trim) in the rightmost slot.
    • Netherite Upgrade: Put a Netherite Ingot in the rightmost slot to upgrade your diamond gear to Netherite.
  • Collect the Modified Item: The modified item will appear in the output slot on the right. Remember, using a Smithing Template consumes the template itself.

Additional Tips:

  • There are currently 17 different Smithing Templates available, each offering unique decorative options or the Netherite upgrade functionality.
  • Be mindful that some Smithing Templates are rarer than others. Explore different locations and consider crafting duplicates if needed.
  • Experiment with different combinations of templates and materials to create your personalized gear and tools!

By following these steps and unleashing your creativity, you can master the art of using Smithing Templates and elevate your Minecraft experience to a whole new level.
